So you think you want a Corgi?!
 |
|
Pembroke Welsh Corgi's have often been called a big dog in a small body.... and how true that is! Versatile and adaptable, Corgis can adjust to being show dogs to obedience or agility competition to living in an apartment. Athletic, and said to have the IQ of a five year old child, they are very devoted and entertaining companions. Originally bred to herd cattle, the little dogs nip at the cattle's rear legs to move them, and resulting kicks sail over their short frame. Many Corgi's today still love that job,and will try to herd anything faster than a turtle, whether it's cats, puppies, horses or even children.... anyone they can get to co-operate and run. One of our grandsons, Noah, can never resist running around our couch... with Dallas in happy pursuit! Some Corgis take life very seriously, while others are the 'class clown'. We have had both types, and all are wonderful. Corgis can be excellent home guardians through bark - not bite, as they have a natural alertness and protective instincts. My first female, Bailey, was also my constant guardian any chance she got. If outdoors without me, she got along with other animals of all kinds, although the barn cats got very tired of being 'herded'. But when I was with her, she was 'on duty' and no other four footed friend would dare get near. One day while I was on a ladder painting outside, she never left her post at the foot of the ladder - sitting below the rungs constantly watching out for me.

The most famous Corgi devotee today is Queen Elizabeth of England. Given a Corgi on her 18th birthday, she has owned them ever since and has several that live with her in her private apartments.
Corgis have a beautiful outer coat, and a soft heavy undercoat that sheds twice a year. When shedding, they need a lot of daily brushing. All other times, they are pretty much 'wash and wear', needing only occasional grooming.
Please contact us for upcoming litters. Pictures of new puppies will be posted here when available. We sell to loving homes only - no pet shops or wholesalers. Puppies are raised in our home with lots of TLC, and will be ready to go to their new homes at 8 weeks old after first vaccinations and deworming. Pets are sold with a spay / neuter contract and limited registration. Occasionally individuals will be offered for show or breeding with full registration.
